IRIS 201: Facilitating Discovery

Move beyond reviewing results to facilitate participant-owned discovery.

IRIS is used across coaching, mentoring, facilitation, consulting and organizational development. IRIS 201 teaches a facilitative approach to individual discovery that aligns with ICF coaching competencies, helping practitioners use IRIS information without letting their own interpretations replace the participant’s meaning.

IRIS 201 builds on the foundational Snapshot SEE conversation introduced in QuickStart 101. You’ll learn to use the IRIS flow—Inquire, Reflect, Identify and Select—to guide a focused, responsive discovery conversation.

This isn’t about memorizing a script or learning basic coaching skills. It’s about refining how you use IRIS when the conversation becomes real.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Distinguish reviewing results from interpreting or facilitating
  • Prepare for the conversation without overpreparing
  • Use Snapshot SEE attributes and clean, neutral questions to open discovery without over-teaching or interpreting
  • Notice and follow what has energy for the participant while maintaining direction
  • Help the participant identify what matters and select what to carry forward

These practices help participants make sense of their own results and leave with insight they can use.
